The original key safe was developed in the USA by Supra, then a part of General Electric (GE), in the 1960's. The original keysafe, the Supra S5, was created to fulfill the needs of the real estate market, allowing keys to be stored securely at the property being sold rather than passed from person to person in order to conduct viewing and perform maintenance tasks. The key safe with combination code rapidly gained in popularity with its target market, then became even more popular with home owners themselves who saw the benefits of having a spare key always available to them at their property. The key safe has three main qualities leading to its popularity :
We sell the best quality key safes for outside from the worlds leading manufacturers including Supra / GE, Yale and Masterlock. We stock many different makes and models of key safes for outside, all of which have industry leading levels of security. Our key safes for outdoors can be attached to the wall of a building (the traditional installation for a key safe for outdoors), to a post or railing (using the padlock style key safes), to the inside of a postbox (attached using either a strong glue of strong magnets supplied with the key safe) and the Key Safe Auto which has been designed to attache to the window of a car or other vehicle. We all now live in a world very different from the one that existed only 40 or 50 or years ago. At that time if you locked your home at all, then you would frequently hide a spare key under the door mat, under a nearby flower pot or even attached to a piece of string hidden behind something near the door. The security of these solutions was very, very low especially to an experienced thief who would quickly check all of the most common hiding places ! These days, whilst we all still want the convenience of having a spare key readily available at our home or business, we also want it to be held securely. The best solution that has been developed to date is undoubtedly the the key box with it's personalised combination code. A good quality key safe with combination code is a simple, practical and most importantly, secure solution to storing your spare key. When your key safe with code arrives, you simply change the code from the default value (usually 0000), fix it to a suitable fixing point, store your spare key within it and that's it. You can keep the code secret so only you know it, you can share the code with family and friends so they can access the keys if needs be, or you can share the code with workmen or visitors to allow them access. Whenever you want, you can change the code to once again limit the number of people who have access, then share the code with people who still require access. If you have ever been locked out of your home or if your children have arrived home from school without their house key, then you will understand the enormous benefits of having a secure key safe with code installed in your home. Children need never take the keys to their home with them again, as the key is always waiting for them in the secure key safe once they enter the code. Business large and small can also benefit from a key safe with combination and many business now have a secure key safe installed for emergencies. Often the code is only given when required so for example and employee may arrive at their place of work only to find it locked. They make a call to the manager who gives them the code to retrieve the key. It is that simple. Home helpers and care companies are also using secure key safes more and more frequently with many care companies only taking on new clients on the basis that a key safe with combination code is installed. Previously the management of keys was a significant problem for home care companies but with a secure key safe, this is no longer a problem The secure key box with its numeric code is suitable for both residential and commercial use Where ever they are located within the world, home care companies face the same problems regarding the management of their customers keys. Storing the keys to the homes of their customers securely, yet making sure that the keys are readily available whenever needed, has proven to be a very difficult and time consuming task. Many companies found it a challenge to make sure that the right keys were always on hand where and when they were needed. In many respects these home care companies faced exactly the same issues as the real estate companies faced in the USA many decades before. Unsurprisingly perhaps, the solution to their problem was also exactly the same. Instead of centrally storing customer's keys, the best solution was to securely store the keys at the property to which they belong. Home care companies around the world now ask their customers to install a secure key box with number code at their home from which they can then access the keys when they are needed. Installing a key safe at the customers home allows the home owner to retain complete control over their own keys and therefore control who has access to their property. This is a big advantage for the home owner and also for the home care company who no longer has to managed hundreds of sets of keys !! The use of key safes for the elderly is now very well established around the world. A key safe with code generally consists of two elements. Firstly there is the body of the key safe. This is usually made of solid metal, with the hollow interior compartment large enough to hold one or multiple keys (the compartment size varies from model to model). The front of the key safe consists of the door. This door can either completely detach from the body of the key safe (for example the Supra S5) or it can be hinged to the bottom of the body of the key safe (for example the Masterlock 5401). The door has a latch which secures it to the body of the key safe with code, keeping the contents, usually a key, secure. The door opens when the correct combination code is entered. Traditional key safes are mechanical. They are thus both very simple to use and reliable. Most key safes with code are designed to be attach to a suitable solid object (a wall, a railing, a postbox or even a car window) and most models allow the owner to set the code he requires. The code can be changed as many times as you want, but don't forget the new code or you will be locked out ! The uses for the key box with code in business are almost limitless. Some of the common uses include :
As you can see there are many possible uses but so, why is the key box with number code so popular? There are three main reasons why business both small and large choose the key safe with code :
The key box with code has advantages for both the home help company, and the elderly home owner. For the home care company, having the elderly customers keys stored at the property within the secure key box allows them to access the keys to their client's property without the need to have to manage the keys of all of their customers centrally. In the past, home care companies would have a key for each property that they needed to visit. Before a home care providers began their daily visits, they would need to make sure that they had all of the keys to all of theelderly customers they would be visiting. This took a significant amount of time and problems often arose when things did not go to plan. With a secure key box at every property, the home care company would simply retrieve the key that was already there waiting for them. They would not have to take keys with them or pass the keys between different employees greatly simplifying the administration. For the elderly home owner, they keep control of their keys. As the home owner is able to change the combination code when ever they wish, the customer always retains control of who can access their property and they can be certain that no additional keys to their property are in circulation or can be lost by the care company employees. Additionally, with a key safe installed the home owner would gain all of the benefits of having a spare key available to family and friends. Many elderly people have a key safe fitted to their property. The advantage of this for care companies has already been discussed, but there are other advantages.
The concern for many elderly people when considering a key safe if the question of security. With a long track record in many countries, it is clear that the key safe does not increase the risk of any individual home been burgled or broken into. A secure key safe is generally not the easiest entry point for a property as most burlargs either look for a key hidden under a flower pot etc, or break a window. The Supra C500 key safe is approved by the police in the UK and has a security rating higher than most front doors. Experience tells us that key safes are rarely attacked in order to access the keys which may be within, but if security is a major concern then we recommend the police approved key safe with combination code, the Supra C500. We have all been locked out of our home, work place, holiday accommodation or car at some point. Like me, I am sure in those instances that you wished that there was a spare key close by that you could access. In years gone by it was common for a spare key to be hidden in the vicinity, but as we have become more and more security conscious (and as potential burglars became better at finding those hidden keys !), many people in many different walk of life are discovering that the safest way to keep a spare key is by installing a secure key safe with combination code. The key safe with code is suitable for all environments from apartments to houses, from offices to AirBNB appartments and chalets in the mountains. With many different variations of the key safe available, there is certain to be a model that meets your needs. Whether you have school age children who might return home without their house keys or perhaps you have a holiday home or AirBnB appartment where you need to pass the keys to friends or customers, a secure outdoor key safe with its changeable combination code can provide the perfect solution to keep your keys safe and it can make your life a little bit easier too. The secure key box lets you store a spare key at the very place where the key is needed, without the need of providing a spare key to all those who might potentially need access in an emergency. The mechanical key box is easy to install and needs no power supply or maintenance. Throughout the world the key safe with code is becoming more and more popular with home care companies, home helpers, for granting access to cleaners and to ensure that a spare key is always on hand for family and friends if the need arises. The secure key safe offer you a low cost way to store your spare key that is easy to install and easy to use. We recommend that you install a key safe as the cost and inconvenience of losing a key and not having access to your home can be inconvenient and expensive.
